KAMPALA – Former TV presenter Miles Rwamiti has been arrested for allegedly participating in an illegal demonstration in Hoima Town.

Rwamiti, who is contesting for the Hoima East parliamentary seat on the FDC ticket, was allegedly inciting a group of youth to block the Hoima-Fort-portal road following the arrest of their colleague.

Albertine Regional Police spokesperson Julius Hakiza said Rwamiti and other youth had lit fire in the middle of the road protesting the arrest of one of their colleagues during the ongoing NRM primaries.

“He will be charged with inciting violence, holding an unlawful assembly and malicious damage of government property because he was part of the group that burnt tyres on a government road,” Mr Hakiza said.

Rwamiti is a journalist by training. He started his career at Capital FM as an entertainment Critique in 2009, and it was here that he rose to become a household name in Uganda.

He has written for New Vision, worked on Bukedde TV and Radio.
