BUSHENYI – General Duties Minister Mary Karooro Okurut, swept aside by Annet Katusiime Mugisha in Friday’s battle for the Bushenyi Woman MP flagbearer for the ruling NRM party has wished goodluck to the victor.

“I congratulate the winner and wish her good luck,” Ms Okurut said on Friday evening after she was defeated by more than 70 percent of the vote.
Ms Mugisha garnered 84,000 votes to Karooro’s 29,000.

The NRM parliamentary primaries went into action Friday, September 4, 2020, with about 12 million party faithful queueing up to choose who holds the women MP and direct constituency flags come 2021.

In Bushenyi district, western Uganda, the race for the woman MP seat has been one of the most intriguing with the contenders Ms Mary Karooro Okurut and Ms Annet Katusiime Mugisha, wife of Eng Dr Silver Mugisha, the managing director of National Water and Sewerage Corporation.

Ms Annet Mugisha is new kid on the block, she has been massively elected by Bushenyi people (PHOTO/File).

Ms Karooro has been running a project of skilling young girls in the district. Recently, she also donated hand hoes, solar and food in the area and is currently building a sanitary pad factory at Kutungu.

Meanwhile, Ms Katusiime through Bamugisha Community Welfare initiative donated food, soap and money to village saving groups in the district in addition to supporting church projects.

For many residents, time for the incumbent, Ms Karooro, who has represented the district a number of time is up and it is time for Ms Mugisha to take over.
