KAMPALA – Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has on Wednesday, July 22, addressed the press about elections of Special Interest Groups (SIGs).

The SIGs include; older persons, persons with disabilities and the youth.

During the presser at the party headquarters Uganda House, Kampala, the party spokesperson, Michael Osinde announced that the elections of SIGs will start by picking of nomination forms on Thursday, July 23.

“We encourage all the eligible UPC youth, older persons and persons with disabilities to pick nomination forms at the respective Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) offices and fully participate in the elections slated for August across the country,” Osinde said.

He said that the activity will not only increase on the representation of the party at various elective positions, but also build a firm foundation for the party.

“Therefore, we call upon all the UPC candidates for youth, old persons and person with disabilities to work hand in hand and liaise with the authorised District Chairpersons and Regional Vice-Chairpersons for; endorsement, guidance, coordination and easy mobilisation of party members and supporters,” he said.

Osinde said that all these are aimed at sweeping all and/or majority of the SIGs seats.

He also noted that the district conferences to nominate Hon. Jimmy Alena for Party Presidency are still ongoing and will end on Sunday, July 26.

“With all this, UPC looks forward to safe guarding national independence and promote national unity, equality, equity and human rights for all,” he said.
