KAMPALA – Makerere University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe has in an internal document suggested the semester dates for opening the university for finalists.

In his 14th address, President Museveni said only undergraduate finalists, Postgraduate finalists, finalists in the Tertiary institutions, candidates at P.7, S.4 and S6 levels should be allowed to return to school.

He also directed Ministry of Education, Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Health to work out modalities to this effect.

According to a document sent to key departmental heads seen by PML Daily, Prof. Nawangwe, suggests the re-assumption of semester two on Saturday June 20, 2020 and close on August 7, 2020.

“This will include teaching and end of semester examination,” reads an excerpt.

He asked departmental heads to get data for final year students and contact them to know how much had been covered in terms of teaching and remaining time.

“List the public health control measures required and planning the acquisition,” he added.

Nawangwe further asks deans to list all finalists with their phone numbers.

“List the schools which have been or not been teaching online and how much is required to complete the course units content,” reads the letter in part.

He noted that the required information should reach the vice Chancellor’s office before Friday May 29,2020.

Now according to a post on the university social media pages, the proposals as laid down in the letter are to be discussed by Management and later the University Council.

“They are not conclusive!,” reads an excerpt.
