Makerere sets date for 2020/2021 Law pre-entry exam

KAMPALA — Makerere University academic staff has announced Saturday, April 18, 2020, as the date it will conduct pre-entry examinations for admission to the Bachelor of Laws 2020/2021 academic year.

All applicants wishing to be admitted to the Bachelor of Laws programme at Makerere are required to sit for the pre-entry examination.

According to a statement issued by Mr. Alfred Masikye Namoah, the University Academic Registrar, for anyone to qualify for the examination, they must possess the minimum admission requirements set by the university.

The university categorizes pre-entry candidates in three different entry requirements.

A-level leavers must have obtained a minimum of 13 points for male applicants and 12 points for female applicants in any A-Level combination for Humanities and Sciences. However, those who sat for their A-Level exams before 2013 should have obtained at least 15 and 14 points for male and female applicants respectively.

Mature age entrants must have passed the mature age entry examination (for Bachelor of Laws) for either 2019/2020 or 2020/202q Academic Year while degree holders must at least hold a bachelor’s of any discipline from a recognised university, although they don’t qualify for government sponsorship.

Mr. Namoah added that all applicants interested in government sponsorship must have applied for Bachelor of Laws by filling in the government application form (Pujab form).

Diploma and degree holders will be required to submit a certified copy of the academic transcript.

The completed application form should be returned within two days, to the balcony Level 3 Senate Building from where applicants will receive further instructions.

He added that applicants will be given some past papers to assist them in preparation for the examination at a cost of UGX5000 each.

“Application forms for those intending to sit the examination are obtainable and resubmitted before Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at the University, Room 505, Senate building on payment of a Non-refundable application fee of UGX.110,000/- excluding the Bank charges (paid in any Stanbic Bank Branch, DFCU and Centenary Bank Makerere branch using Makerere University Pay-in bank Slips),” the announcement reads in part, adding that applicants will be assessed in areas of reading and comprehension skills, language skills, numerical skills, and logic.

Other areas will include general knowledge, analytical writing skills, general knowledge and analytical writing skills.
