KAMPALA — Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, the Makerere University Vice Chancellor has on Sunday November 10 met a one Ssebidde, a student with disability who was terribly beaten during a night raid to Lumumba Hall by the security forces including the army during a tuition demo few weeks ago.

Sserabidde was brutally clobbered by the army and lost property.

Prof. Nawangwe who is accused of sanctioning brutal army raids on students’ halls has since apologized to Sserabidde and assured him that his damaged property will be compensated by the university.

Students said more than 60 rooms were broken into and soldiers smashed the students’ properties as well as forcing the students to seek refuge outside the university.

During the night raids, several students were beaten at the respective halls of residence, while others were assaulted on their way from lectures.

Unable to escape, several students living with disabilities were victims of the night raids at Lumumba Hall.

The military also ordered journalists who covered the protests against the 15 percent tuition increment to delete footage of the arrest of students with disabilities.
