KAMPALA – The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has warned headteachers, teachers and students about the existence of fake examination papers on the market ahead of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations.
Addressing journalists on Thursday ahead of briefing for Senior Four candidates, which is due on Friday, October 11, 2019, the UNEB Executive Secretary, Mr Daniel Nokrach Odongo, said the fake papers are being sold by unscrupulous individuals purported to be UCE exams in Masaka and Kampala whereas not.
He said that these fake papers will disorient candidates since they will find questions they concentrated on are not in the actual examination papers that will be sat beginning on Monday, October 14 with 535/3 Physics.
Police last month arrested four people who were allegedly caught vending illegal Primary leaving (PLE) examinations, which UNEB said they were fake. Others are still on the run, according to Mr Odongo.
The UNEB Executive Secretary said that the briefing of all candidates across the country must be done by the heads of schools and they are expected to explain clearly to their students the rules and regulations regarding the conduct of the exams.
“It is very important that heads of centres conduct this briefing personally and not delegate to other members of staff. Experience in previous examinations indicates that breaches of rules and regulations by candidates occurred in centres where briefing was poorly done not done at all,” Mr Odongo said.
“All heads of schools must inform the candidates of their responsibilities and draw their attention to the caution against examination mal-practise and the consequences of involvement in the act,” he added.
He asked all the religious leaders to use their platforms to preach against malpractice starting with the Muslims on Friday.
Mr Odongo said that the 2019 UCE exams will be managed by 474 area supervisors,3,532 centre supervisors,13,279 chief invigilates and 1,200 scouts while security from security agencies are slated to provide security at all points
UCE will end on November 16.
