MBARARA – Mbarara police have in custody a total of six suspected motor vehicle number plates thieves who have been operating in areas of Mbarara, Rwampara and Isingiro districts.

The suspects include; Besiga Norman, Mucunguzi Didas, Mugume Didas and Amutuhaire Kenneth.

According to Samson Kasasiira, the Rwiizi police region spokesperson, earlier, territorial Police of Kiruhura District carried out an intelligence led operation and apprehended two suspects; Byamukama Frank and Twinomujuni Nicolas, and recovered 11 numberplates from them.

“Police in an intelligence led operation was able to track them down and recovered 21 number plates. They are being held at CPS Mbarara awaiting prosecution,” said Kasasiira.

Police cautions members of the public against paying ransom in order to get their number plates back, as this helps fuel the crime within the region.
