KAMPALA – Police have raided Friends Bar located in Nakasero and arrested 15 people who allegedly flouted COVID-19 guidelines.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango, they were found drinking alcohol during day time without observing social distancing and they were not wearing face masks.

“The operation was carried out today at midday. Suspects currently are detained at Central Police Station Kampala on two charges of doing acts that are likely to cause the spread of infectious diseases, disobedience of lawful orders contrary to section 171 and 127 of the Penal Code Act,” Onyango said in a statement.

The Ministry of health came out with guidlines to help in cubbing the spread of Coronavirus disease in our country and one of them was to keep the bars closed .

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire, they have been getting information of bars that were stealthily operating and attending to customers thus flaunting ministry of health guidelines.

He noted that most of the people are taking advantage of the relaxation of curfew.

“We want to warn the public to at all time keep in mind the guidelines that were issued by the ministry of health,” he said.

He added that the operations are still ongoing.
