KAKIRI – Civilians from Bussujja village, Kakiri town council have carried out mob action on one Muhammad Ssempijja whom they allege had stolen items from a resident.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango has said it is alleged that Ssempijja broke into one Sofas Sigane’s house on May 2, 2020 and stole his bag containing a phone and other items.

“A search was mounted by civilians who allegedly got Ssempijja in possession of the stolen items,” he said in a statement dated May 3.

“After getting information about a mob action that was being carried on Ssempijja, Kakiri police responded,” Onyango said.

He added that by the time police reached the scene, the civilians had cut off his leg.

“A case file of burglary was opened. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing,” he revealed.

Onyango cautioned the public against taking the law into their hands.

“No one has a right to charge and convict a person other than courts of law,” said Onyango.
