MASINDI – A 24-year old woman is currently in police custody in Masindi District on allegations that she seduced a 15-year-old boy into having sex with her.

According to Mr Peter Mukasa, the Masindi police-community liaisons officer, the suspect is a resident of Kisanja trading center in Pakanyi sub-county.

Mr Mukasa said the mother of the boy reported to police that on 17th February 2020 the suspect bought alcohol for the boy and eventually convinced the boy to spend a night at her place.

“We have the woman in custody and it’s our first case to register since the amendment of the defilement act,” Mukasa said. According to Mukasa, the suspect will soon be produced in court to answer defilement charges.

In 2007, Section 129 of the Penal Code Act was amended and the amendment was phenomenal. It changed the crime from being defilement of girls under the age of 18 to defilement of person under 18 years of age. This means that the current law punishes the defilement of both girls and boys. This was a grave anomaly which had hitherto discriminated against the boy child.

In January this year, Police in Mpigi district arrested an 18-year-old woman on allegations of defiling an 8-year old boy.
