Katuna money changer kidnapped, robbed of millions of money

KABALE – Police in Kabale has one suspect in custody and hunting for other three on charges of alleged Kidnap and aggravated robbery.

It’s alleged that on Wednesday 9, at around 12:30 hours at Mayengo along Katuna Kabale road, unknown people traveling in an army pajero whose number plate was not established and armed with a pistol, kidnapped one Semwogerere Kijwengye, a money changer at Katuna boarder and drove him in his own vehicle reg no UBE 981F.

Immediately security learnt of it and made deployment on all access roads with in the region and the kidnappers were intercepted at Kisizi hospital.

Security officers nabbed one of the four assailants in full army combat while the other three in civilian clothes escaped using their pajero vehicle.

Ssemwogerere was discovered alive but the kidnappers tool off with his movey estimated to be over 10 million shillings.

According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police mouthpiece, the suspect in custody claims to be Twebaze Bahram 31 years old of Ruruku village Kagunga ward Eastern Division Rukungiri municipality.

Twebaze confessed not being an army man but used the “attire that belongs to his brother in Somalia”.

“We have already started investigation to establish the real truth behind the army uniform the kidnappers were putting on” said mr. Maate.

Inquiries underway to establish the particulars of his associates, and whether truly is a civilian or otherwise “Mr Maate added”.

The case has been registered at KATUNA police station on ref number CRR 85/2019.
