


KANUNGU – Police in Kanungu is investigating circumstances under which two people were kidnapped and taken hostage.
It’s alleged that on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at around 01:40 hours, at Kyabuyorwa cell, Northern ward, Butogota town council in Kanungu district along the road from Kanyantorogo-Butogota-Bwindi, 4 armed men with two SMGs, spears, panga(machette) kidnapped the duo.
Police have stated that the kidnappers tied a rope on both sides of the road, waylaid and managed to kidnap Twinamasiko Ambrose 27, a peasant and Twinomujuni Eldard 31, a bodaboda cyclist.
The duo hails from Nyakagyezi cell, Northern ward, Butogota town council in Kanungu district.
Elly Maate the Kigezi region police mouthpiece said the trio were travelling on a boda boda bajaj boxer number UEX 355L.
Mr. Maate adds that the third person, Niwagaba Jacob a 12-year-old boy from Nyabitanda cell, Eastern ward, Butogota town council managed to escape from the assailants.
The kidnappers were putting on civilian attire and had masks on their face. They reportedly spoke a mixture of both Swahili and Rukiga.
Mr Maate stated that, after crossing into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the kidnappers shot three bullets in air.
Mr. Maate said that Police was notified which inspected the crime scene and recovered a motorcycle Reg No; UEX 355L a Bajaji boxer model.
A case of alleged kidnap has been registered at Kanungu vide CRB 504 /2019 as police investigation continue.
This is not the first time gunmen have kidnapped residents.
On Wednesday, August 7, at around 11 pm Eli Byarugaba, a resident of Bushoro village in Kihembe parish in Kanyantorogo Sub County in Kanungu District was also kidnapped Kanyashande village in Kanyantorogo Sub County, near Ishasha River.
