DOKOLO – Police in Dokolo District, northern Uganda, are holding a woman who allegedly strangled her baby and dumped the body inside a neighbour’s pit latrine.
The suspect, according to Dokolo District Police Commander Jimton Aguta is 19-year-old Monica Akello.
Akello is a resident of Gorogoro B cell, Northern Ward in Dokolo Town Council and a case of infanticide under CRB 473/2019 has been opened up against her at Dokolo Central Police Station.
The incident, according to police, happened when the father of the deceased boy was not home. The lifeless body of the baby boy named Ocen (one year) was on Tuesday morning recovered from the pit latrine of one Egaru Charles.
The mother, who is now a suspect is in police custody while the body of the child lies cold in the morgue at Dokolo Health Center for postmortem.
Meanwhile, police in Iganga District have arrested a 47-year-old man for allegedly defiling and impregnating his 14-year-old daughter.
The suspect, Musa Kyambadde, a resident of Nabitende Village, Kidago Sub-county in Iganga District, is said to have been sneaking into the daughter’s bedroom at night and forcing her into sex.
The officer-in-charge of the area police, Mr William Nsubuga, said the daughter is 3 months pregnant.
“The daughter reported the matter to police after her mother ignored her when she complained that the father was defiling her in the night.
