KABALE– Police in Kabale on Sunday arrested Emmanuel Niwagaba, a male youth councillor for the Northern Division of the municipality for allegedly stealing metallic cans used as waste bins in the municipality.

According to Isaac Mucunguzi Rushooga, the Division Chairman, in August this year, Coca Cola and Global Livingstone Institute donated 200 metallic cans to Kabale Municipality to help in collecting plastic.

However, these bins came missing one after the other and as we speak; only 10 of them remain.

Council however learnt that one of their members Niwagaba was one stealing them hence arresting him.

Rushooga headed a team to Niwagaba’s home where they found 20 metallic cans that had been cut and prepared to make metallic suit cases for students.

The chairman wondered the fact that leaders that would be protecting public property are the ones stealing them.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesman confirms the arrest of the suspect who is facing theft charges under case number SD 18/28/10/2018 at Kabale central police station.
