ARUA- Police in Arua have a UPDF gun registered No. UG UPDF_UE 04061998 SMG with 13 rounds of Amunitions that was recovered by Locals from a suspected robber at Barifa Forest in Arua Municipality.

According to the Police spokesperson in charge of West Nile ASP Angucia Josephine, one local identified as Ali Tiondi, a resident of the area was trying to trace for his stolen iron sheets   in the forest when he saw the gun man resting.

The suspicious Tiondi called his neighbours who came armed with Pangas and approached the robber.

Upon their arrival the suspected robber jumped from sleep, attempted to grab the gun to shoot them when they struggled to remove the gun from him.

The residents told police that they cut the suspect several times on the head, arms, back and legs during the fight to get the gun.

The residents took the gun to Arua CPS for further management.

Angucia said that Police later deployed a team of detectives with police dogs to trace for the where about of the robber who had disappeared with serious injuries.

She says police launched investigations on suspicion that the gun could have been robbed from a UPDF officer Private Otimong James attached to 503 brigade who was killed in may while on official duty at Arua hill Boma ground by unknown assailants.

Police also suspects the gun is connected to a number of murders by shooting that have rocked Arua town and its suburb in Muni area.

The gun of the deceased officer was robbed with 120rds of Ammos but only 13rds of ammunitions have been recovered.

Some exhibits of personal effects which include a phone have been recovered from the scene.

Police so far confirmed the arrest of two suspects helping them with investigations.
