Man arrested over murder of 100-year-old grand father

Police in Ibanda have arrested a one – Tusiime Kuteesa, 30- for allegedly killing his father, Ediwarido Rwabwamba, 104, by hittng the deceased with a hammer (FILE PHOTO)

IBANDA – Police in Ibanda are holding a 30-year-old man for allegedly killing his grandfather.

The District Police Commander, Mr Rogers Cheben, said on Wednesday that Mr Tusiime Kuteesa is said to have hit Ediwarido Rwabwamba aged 104 with a hammer on the head killing him instantly on Sunday.

The deceased hailed from Kafunjo cell in Ibanda municipality.

A postmortem report done from Ruhoko health centre 1V indicated that Rwabwamba’s skull was shuttered. The body also had wounds in the ribs.

Mr Cheben said Kuteesa will be taken to court to answer charges of mur-der.

Mr Cheben also disclosed that there is a drastic increase in domestic violence cases in the district thus appealing to the public to always report such cases to police.

In May, Police in the district arrested a man for allegedly murdering his wife.

According to Mr Cheben, Henry mugisha 64, a resident of Rwengwe cell, In Kikyenkye Sub County, Ibanda district, attacked his wife Rose Mary Kasande 53 with a panga and cut her hands before chopping off her head leaving her body in a pool of blood.

After the incident, Mugisha handed himself to Police. Chebet attributed the murder to misunderstandings between the couple that had lasted to over 20 years.
