NRM National Treasurer, Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, closed the Uganda Secondary Schools’ Championship for the Bukedi subregion, held at Madibira Primary School in Busia Municipality on Sunday.
The five-day tournament featured 58 schools, with Busia Secondary School topping the boys’ category and Tororo Girls School winning the girls’ competition. The champions, along with the first and second runners-up, will represent the subregion at the national level.
The two champions will be joined by the 1st and 2nd runners-up to represent the subregion at the national level.
Amb. Nekesa commended the students for engaging in sports, saying apart from winning, they help to keep them active and strong in their educational endeavours and keep their bodies fit.
“Government is committed to developing the sports sector through establishing minimum zonal infrastructure of two stadiums per subregion to facilitate training and development of talents right from the grassroots,” Amb. Nekesa said, adding that “the NRM government is committed to promoting youth development and nurturing of their talents.”
