KAMPALA – In a shocking and disturbing incident, a young man identified as Benjamin Agaba set himself on fire near the entrance of Parliament on Tuesday. Eyewitnesses say Agaba, a member of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, was seen dousing himself with petrol before igniting the flames.
Agaba, who survived the ordeal with severe burns, alleged that he had not received any support from his party despite being a loyal member. He claimed that his property had been vandalized by supporters of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party, leaving his father homeless.
“I have been seeking help from the party offices for over a year now, but no one has come to my aid,” Agaba said. “I felt like I had no other option but to take drastic action to draw attention to my plight.”
The NRM party is yet to respond to the claims as Agaba receives treatment for his injuries.
