Wakiso Police conducted a successful operation in the Lubigi swamp on January 19, 2025, targeting suspected criminals who had been terrorizing the local community. The operation was the result of meticulous planning and intelligence gathering, aimed at putting an end to the rising cases of robbery and phone snatching in the area.
According to the police, the suspects had set up temporary grass shelters in the swamp, which served as their base for planning and executing their criminal activities. “We had been receiving complaints from the public about a group of criminals who were targeting commuters, stealing their valuables, and in some cases, using violence,” said a police spokesperson. “We decided to take action and conduct an operation to bring these criminals to justice.”
During the operation, the police recovered a haul of stolen items, including motorcycle parts, electronics, personal items, and breaking implements. The recovered items included 15 motorcycle number plates, 6 motorcycle side mirrors, 2 motorcycle locks, 7 mobile phones, 1 robot radio, and 1 solar battery, among others.
The police also arrested three suspects, identified as Niyonzima Richard, 28, Kiiza David, 42, and Ngobi Ali, 21. “We are pleased with the success of the operation, and we believe that this will help to reduce the cases of crime in the area,” said the police spokesperson. “We urge the public to continue cooperating with us and providing us with information that can help us to combat crime.”
The operation is a significant step towards restoring safety and security in the area, and the police have promised to continue working tirelessly to ensure that the community is protected from criminal activities.
