Kampala, Uganda – The Speke Resort Convention Centre in Kampala, Uganda, is set to host a high-level African Union (AU) summit aimed at boosting the continent’s agricultural sector.
The Extraordinary Summit on the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) will bring together African heads of state, ministers, and experts from January 9 to 11.
The summit’s objectives include endorsing the draft Kampala CAADP Declaration and the Ten-Year CAADP Strategy and Action Plan (2026-2035).
These documents provide a vision for transforming Africa’s agrifood systems and outline strategies for achieving sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity.
“Africa has the potential to become a breadbasket for the world,” said African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat. “But we need to invest in our agriculture sector, improve productivity, and enhance regional trade.”
The summit is seen as a critical moment for African leaders to reaffirm their commitment to transforming the continent’s agriculture sector and improving the lives of millions of people.
The event is expected to draw over 1,000 participants, including development partners, representatives from civil society, academia, and the media.
