KAMPALA – A devastating fire swept through the Nyumba Kuubwa building in the Arua Park area of downtown Kampala on Wednesday, leaving a trail of destruction and millions of shillings in damage.
The cause of the fire remains unclear, but authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
“I was on my way to work when I saw the building engulfed in flames,” said Jane Nalwanga, a nearby resident. “It was a terrifying sight. The fire was spreading so quickly, and I was worried that it would spread to other buildings in the area.”
Firefighters responded quickly to the scene, but the fire had already caused significant damage. Properties worth millions of shillings were destroyed in the blaze, including office equipment, furniture, and important documents.
The fire has also raised concerns about the safety of buildings in Kampala’s central business district. Many of the buildings in the area are old and lack modern fire safety measures, making them vulnerable to fires.
