KAMPALA – The Electoral Commission of Uganda is conducting regional stakeholder workshops today, January 10, 2025, in preparation for the general update of the national voters register. These workshops are taking place across different regions, led by commissioners and senior management staff of the Electoral Commission.
As announced earlier, the general update of the national voters register is scheduled to commence on January 20, 2025, and will end on February 10, 2025. The Electoral Commission has emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement in ensuring a credible and transparent electoral process.
“The general update of the national voters register is a critical exercise that requires the participation and input of all stakeholders,” said Julius Mucunguzi, the head of public relations and spokesperson of the Electoral Commission. “We are conducting these regional workshops to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and engaged in the process.”
Mucunguzi added, “The national voters register is the foundation of credible elections. It determines who can vote, be a candidate, or participate in the electoral process. Therefore, it is essential that we get it right.”
The workshops aim to bring on board key stakeholders, including their ideas, opinions, concerns, and views, to ensure the success and impact of the general update exercise. This exercise is critical, as the national voters register is the bedrock of credible elections.
“The Electoral Commission is committed to ensuring that the electoral process is inclusive, transparent, and credible,” Mucunguzi emphasized. “We urge all stakeholders to participate in these regional workshops and contribute to the success of the general update exercise.”
The Electoral Commission has urged all invited stakeholders to participate in the regional workshops, contributing to a free, fair, transparent, and inclusive electoral process. As Mucunguzi concluded, “A free, fair, credible, and transparent election is a responsibility of all stakeholders. Let us work together to achieve this goal.”
