As the festive season approached, the Uganda Police Force launched a series of operations aimed at disrupting the activities of suspected criminal gangs. These gangs had been terrorizing communities, targeting pedestrians, homes, and businesses, and leaving a trail of fear and destruction in their wake.
The police had received numerous complaints from residents about the gangs’ activities, and they had been working tirelessly to gather intelligence and build cases against the suspects. Finally, the time had come to take action.
On the night of November 28, 2024, police descended upon the areas of Kauga and Nantabulirwa in Goma Division, Mukono District. They had received tips that a group of suspects were gathered in the area, smoking marijuana and planning their next move.
As the police arrived, they found 25 suspects huddled together, surrounded by clouds of smoke. The suspects were arrested and taken into custody, and a search of the area yielded a stash of marijuana.
The following night, police carried out a similar operation in the areas of Kasolo and Bugabwe trading centers in Iganga town. This time, 23 suspects were arrested, and police seized marijuana rolls and housebreaking implements.
The operations continued over the next few days, with police arresting dozens of suspects and seizing large quantities of marijuana and other illicit items. The suspects were taken into custody and charged with various offenses, including possession of narcotics and housebreaking.
As the police continued their crackdown on the gangs, they also worked to educate the community about the dangers of these groups and the importance of reporting any suspicious activity. The police urged residents to remain vigilant and to work together to build safer, more secure communities.
The operations were a major success, and the police were praised for their efforts in disrupting the gangs’ activities. As the festive season got underway, residents felt a sense of relief and gratitude, knowing that the police were working tirelessly to keep them safe.
