Lands minister Judith Nabakooba has urged low-income earners to embrace new property saving schemes, an initiative by real estate companies for people to own properties.
She made the call on December 15 during the issuance of over 200 land titles to clients of Fabulous Beautiful Homes in Bweyogerere, Wakiso District, who have been saving for land for the past one year.
“It is about trust and hard work. Continue with that saving culture and acquire more achievements in life. We thank God for using the Chief Executive Officer to start up this company,” she remarked.
She underscored the power of saving, noting that getting big achievements does not require a lot of money. The minister asked the beneficiaries in this year’s cohort to develop their land.
“We believe that each one of us can have what we call a home and we will be good to go and we shall be proud. Develop the properties that you have acquired following the plans of the estates,” she added.
Ms Nabakooba equally encouraged the new landlords to jealously guard their titles from any fraudulent activities. She asked them to regularly check for information on their titles using the new national land information system.
“Land information is available on our portal. Open up an account and check for the information to know the status of your titles,” she emphasized.
She called upon the public to start up innovative ways of improving lives of the people such as Fabulous Homes Chief Executive Officer, Immaculate Nantongo, who used social media to identify the most pressing need in her community.
“Interest other people back in your communities who may not know what is taking place to walk with you, move with you on this journey of changing people’s lives.”
She called upon the public to always tap into opportunities provided by the government through livelihood programs like the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, and GROW, among others.
Ms Nantongo, the executive director of Fabulous Beautiful Home told the minister that she conceived the idea of starting up the initiative and since then, she has never looked back.
She noted that at least 2300 people have become landlords since 2018 when this initiative started.
“I thank the minister that ever since she assumed that office as the principal lands ministry, service delivery has improved. The steps of acquiring a land title are now very few and we can have all the information we have any time,” she appreciated.
Ms Nantongo appealed to the public to embrace her land-saving scheme, promising to unveil a building-saving scheme to help those who have acquired land through her company to develop their land.
“I thank my loyal customers for the trust they have shown me ever since we started this journey. Many people have seen their lives changed through this initiative.”
