KAMPALA, Uganda — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has emphasized the importance of household income in transforming the lives of Ugandans, urging residents of Kasese District to focus on improving their economic well-being.
“Focus on household incomes; others will come later,” President Museveni said during a joint thanksgiving ceremony for Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi and Hon. Godfrey Baluku Kabyanga in Kasese District.
President Museveni advised locals to adopt a calculated approach to wealth creation, emphasizing the importance of making good profits. He identified four sectors that can create wealth: commercial agriculture, manufacturing/industries, services, and ICT.
The President recommended the four-acre model farming for those with small pieces of land. This involves growing coffee, fruits, pasture for dairy, and food crops on separate acres, and engaging in poultry, piggery, or fish farming in the backyard.
President Museveni cautioned against growing crops like maize and cotton, which require large chunks of land to be profitable. He emphasized the importance of differentiating between wealth creation and development, stressing that wealth creation is crucial for socio-economic transformation.
The President also warned against politics of identity based on tribes and religion, urging locals to work together to support prosperity.
During the event, President Museveni thanked God for Gen. Mbadi and Hon. Kabyanga’s elevation to Ministerial positions. The Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, thanked President Museveni for appointing the two Ministers.
Hon. Kabyanga raised concerns about the lack of household income in Kasese and pledged to sensitize the masses to embrace government programs aimed at improving livelihoods. Gen. Mbadi thanked President Museveni for sustaining peace and security in the country, describing it as a bedrock for development.
