KAMPALA, Uganda — President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki as the new executive director of the Kampala Capital City Authority, the president’s office announced Thursday.
Buzeki, who has been serving as commissioner of human resource management at the Ministry of Public Service, succeeds Dorothy Kisaka, who was sacked by the president in August over negligence related to the collapse of a landfill that killed over 30 people.
Benon Kigenyi has been appointed as the new deputy executive director, according to Deputy Presidential Press Secretary Faruk Kirunda.
Buzeki was selected from a shortlist of candidates released by the Public Service Commission in November. She holds a master’s degree in public administration and management and has attended several skills-enhancing courses.
As executive director, Buzeki will be responsible for overseeing the administration of the capital city of Kampala. She becomes the third woman to hold the position substantively, following Jennifer Musisi and Kisaka.
