President Yoweri Museveni has donated a Fuso lorry to a farmer in Kapchorwa district, in a move aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and economic growth in the region.
The donation was made to Doreen Yapsiwa, a successful farmer who has been utilizing the Parish Development Model (PDM) program to improve her agricultural output. Yapsiwa’s farm, which includes a banana plantation, coffee farm, and cow, is considered a model for other farmers in the region.
Museveni’s donation is part of his efforts to promote agricultural development and economic growth in rural areas. The President has been a strong advocate for the PDM program, which aims to support parish residents in initiating income-generating projects to combat poverty.
During his visit, Museveni also encouraged Ugandans to boycott commercial banks and instead utilize parish banks in the form of PDM SACCOs. He described borrowing from commercial banks as “toxic” and emphasized the importance of supporting local financial institutions.
Museveni also disclosed plans to revise the PDM borrowing rules, potentially increasing the borrowing amount to over 1 million shillings once all parish members have repaid their loans.
In addition to the Fuso lorry, Museveni also donated two Friesian cows to support Yapsiwa’s farming efforts. The donation is expected to help Yapsiwa expand her farm and increase her agricultural output.
