Don Nasser is facing charges of aggravated trafficking in children and defilement alongside his co-accused Promise Ateete who has since been on bail.
The presiding judge, Andrew Bashaija, granted the bail citing that Don Nasser has a fixed place of abode and that his alleged jumping from the back door of home does not deny him being a resident or the owner of his home.
The judge also observed that the state’s claims of pending charges at Kira Police Station cannot be considered as prior offenses as are they are unknown, and it’s unclear whether these charges will be pursued and the police or prosecution may ultimately decide there’s insufficient evidence.
As part of the bail conditions, Don Nasser is required to deposit his passport with the registrar, refrain from international travel without court permission, and report to the deputy registrar monthly for up to six months. His four sureties were also granted a non-cash bond of Shs 50 million each.
The case against Don Nasser and Promise Ateete , prosecution alleges that they trafficked and defiled a 16-year-old girl between May 23 and May 27, 2024. The state claims that the duo used fraudulent means and exploited the victim’s vulnerability for sexual exploitation.
