KAMPALA — Speke Resort Munyonyo, has won hotel of the year at the 2024 Ekkula Pearl of Africa Tourism Award and Exhibition.
The event was held at Sheraton Hotel at the weekend, with Speke Resort Munyonyo, Uganda’s top five-star facility emerging victorious ahead of other luxurious tourism amenities, including Four Points by Sheraton, Aquarius-Kigo Resort and Sheraton Hotels.
The event was held unde the theme: “Celebrating hotels that seamlessly integrate and eco-consciousness, proving that sustainability and great hospitality services and experiences can thrive together”.
Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa presided over this year’s Ekkula Sustainable Tourism Awards, which highlighted key contributions to the industry.
President Museveni was honored with the prestigious Ekkula Sustainable Lifetime Achiever Award 2024 for his unwavering efforts in promoting Uganda as a global tourism destination.
Another standout recognition went to Eliot Mugisha, who received the Sustainable Tourism Youth Championship award for his impactful role in advocating for sustainable practices in Uganda’s tourism sector.
Deputy Speaker Tayebwa reaffirmed the government’s support for the tourism community, ensuring their contributions will receive increased attention and backing moving forward.
Speke Resort Munyonyo has set a benchmark in sustainable luxury, blending eco-conscious practices with unmatched hospitality.
Also known for its dedication to environmental stewardship evident in its robust sustainability initiatives, which focus on minimizing environmental impact, conserving resources, and enhancing the local community, Uganda’s foremost 5-star facility was a top candidate for the award.
