MUKONO – On November 15, 2024, a joint operation between police and UPDF forces in Katega village, Kyampisi sub-county, Mukono District, resulted in the arrest of five suspects accused of stealing electricity wires. “The suspects were caught red-handed with two rows of ABC conductor electric wires, UMEME uniforms, and other related equipment,” said Kituuma Rusoke, Police Spokesperson.
The suspects, Ntale Peter, Kyalisima Adolf, Hamis Kaye Rashid, Kajubi ISA, and Nabulya Miracle, were arrested after intelligence information prompted the operation. A search of Hamis Kaye Rashid’s vehicle, registration number UBQ585K, revealed two rows of ABC conductor wires. Further searches at Ntale Peter’s residence yielded UMEME uniforms, climbing shoes, belts, and other electrical equipment.
According to Kituuma, “The community attempted to lynch the suspects, but police intervened to secure the scene.” All suspects are currently in police custody awaiting prosecution. This marks the second arrest for Ntale Peter in connection with theft and vandalism; he was previously apprehended on April 23, 2023, during an operation for similar offenses.
There have been notable vandalism cases in Kyampisi sub-county, with Kajubi previously linked to theft incidents on November 4, 2024. His motorcycle was left behind during a prior escape after committing vandalism. Kyalisima Adolf’s motorcycle was also found containing UMEME uniforms and climbing shoes. Ntale Peter appears to be a key figure behind these thefts in Mukono District and surrounding areas.
“The police will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those involved in such criminal activities are brought to justice,” emphasized Kituuma.
