KAMPALA – In a thrilling rescue operation, Ugandan authorities have saved Muhammad Ali Abdul Amidu, an Egyptian national and official at the Egyptian Embassy, from the clutches of kidnappers. The diplomat was abducted on November 8, 2024, by unidentified assailants on Zanna Entebbe Road and taken to an unknown location.
According to Rusoke Kituuma, police spokesperson, the kidnappers demanded a hefty ransom of $40,000, threatening to harm Amidu if their demands weren’t met. However, Ugandan police sprang into action, tracking the suspects and monitoring their movements.
“On November 13, 2024, around 2:00 PM, officers intercepted the kidnappers while they were heading to Pearl Motel in Buloba, Wakiso District.”
During the operation, Kituuma explained that one of the kidnappers was apprehended after a confrontation with the rescue force. Thankfully, Muhammad Ali Abdul Amidu was rescued unharmed. The kidnappers were traveling in a Toyota Noah with registration number UAZ 247S, which had three occupants.
Currently, two suspects are in custody in connection with this kidnapping, and the investigation is ongoing. The Ugandan police have assured the public that they take incidents like these very seriously and will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all individuals in Uganda.
