KIBUKU – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday commended Florence Nabutono, a model farmer and LC1 Chairperson from Bukoda Cell, Kasasira Town Council in Kibuku District, for her remarkable journey in wealth creation. During his tour to assess the Parish Development Model’s (PDM) impact on rural households, Museveni was impressed by Nabutono’s homestead development and her embracing of self-driven wealth creation.
Museveni emphasized, “I want to congratulate the family of Nabutono because of waking up and taking advantage of our advice and also our little support. We have been doing this since 1996, but many people, especially the leaders, were not taking it up and educating the people on how to get out of poverty.” He noted that Uganda’s resource-rich environment means no one should experience poverty, stressing the importance of determination and practical efforts in transforming lives.
The President encouraged others to adopt Nabutono’s entrepreneurial mindset, saying, “I will support Nabutono because she is doing well, but we need everyone to come up.” He proposed establishing feed-chopping machines at the sub-county level in Kibuku District to make animal feed more accessible and affordable, highlighting the importance of support for livestock farmers.
Museveni also advised farmers to shift from nomadic to established farming, emphasizing the advantages of dairy production and land management. “The Ankole people embraced my message of wealth creation,” he stated, highlighting the success of his strategy to improve the region’s economy.
Additionally, Museveni warned against land fragmentation, recommending that beneficiaries receive shares of the property rather than dividing it into small plots. “Wealth creation is the core,” he emphasized.
Nabutono’s story serves as a testament to the transformative potential of the Parish Development Model, demonstrating how self-driven wealth creation and entrepreneurial spirit can lift individuals and communities out of poverty.
