KAMPALA, UGANDA – The highly anticipated trial of Molly Katanga and her co-accused has hit another snag, with proceedings delayed for the third time. The case, which resumed today at Kampala’s High Court, was adjourned until next Tuesday, November 26.
Presiding Judge Isaac Muwata cited his attendance at an unnamed training session as the reason for the delay. This latest setback comes as a disappointment to the family of the deceased, Henry Katanga, who was found dead at his Mbuya residence on November 2 last year.
Molly Katanga, wife of the deceased, is jointly charged with their two daughters, Patricia Kakwanzi and Martha Nkwanzi, their family’s domestic servant George Amanyire, and nurse Charles Otai. They all deny the murder charges.
The prosecution is currently presenting its case, with AIP Enock Kanene, a cybercrime analyst, as its 10th witness. However, Kanene’s testimony has been disputed by the defense, which requested access to raw data, including digital evidence and CCTV footage.
Justice Muwata previously ordered the Director of Public Prosecutions to provide all relevant materials, emphasizing the principle of a fair trial. The defense plans to challenge the prosecution’s evidence using the provided data.
Molly Katanga has been attending the trial via video link from Luzira prison due to her ongoing recovery from severe injuries sustained during the incident.
