KAMPALA, UGANDA – Lapaire Uganda, a Pan-African optical retail chain, has opened its 16th outlet, Lapaire Eye Care Centre at Shell Kitooro, in Entebbe.
The new centre, launched in partnership with Vivo Energy, aims to increase access to essential eye care services for Ugandans.
“Many people in Uganda and Africa need glasses but remain unaware due to perceived high costs,” said Oliver Mwanko, Lapaire representative.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 55 million people in Africa need glasses, but only 1.3 million have access.
Lapaire Uganda’s Operations Manager, Kenneth Twinamatsiko, highlighted the importance of accessible eye care. “Our goal is to bridge the gap by opening shops in key areas, making quality eye care more affordable and accessible.”
The Lapaire Eye Care Centre at Shell Kitooro provides a range of services, including free eye tests and diagnostic services. The centre also offers affordable eyewear with transparent pricing and flexible payment plans.
Roseline Kilonzo, Lapaire Group’s Marketing Manager, announced discounts on glasses at the new centre and plans for a nationwide discount period. “We hope Ugandans take advantage of this opportunity to improve their lives with affordable eyewear.”
The centre operates Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Lapaire Uganda’s expansion is part of efforts to address Uganda’s vision care challenges and support road safety initiatives. In 2023, 40% of Uganda’s 23,000 road accidents were caused by poor vision.
