MUKONO – Police in Mukono have embarked on inquiries of an incident where three children are suspected to have been poisoned.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson said that the incident took place at Buligobe village, Nama Sub County in Mukono District.

“It is alleged that on 3rd August 2021 at around 3pm Bwire Rayan, 5 (now deceased), Isiiko Sharif, 5, and Abed Isiiko, 7, ate bananas laced with poison.”

“The bananas are said to have been laced with poison by one Nkonge, a farmer and resident of the same area, and abandoned in the garden to kill monkeys, which he says have been destroying his crops,” Owoyesigyire said.

Unfortunately, the children found the poisoned bananas and ate them.

According to the police, one died while two others are in critical condition at Mukono General Hospital.

“Investigations are on to ascertain all the facts behind the incident.
We have also picked samples of poisoned bananas for analysis,” said Owoyesigyire, adding that, “The body of the deceased child Bwire Ryan was conveyed to the mortuary Mulago for a post mortem.”
