Museveni: Prof. Mbonye’s death is a big loss to Uganda

KAMPALA — President Museveni has sent condolences to the family of the country’s incoming head of Civil Service Ms Lucy Nakyobe Mbonye upon the death of her husband Prof. Anthony Kabanza Mbonye.

Prof. Mbonye died of stomach cancer in Kampala on Sunday, July 25 morning, family sources said.

President Museveni described the death as a big disappointment for the country, and all who know his work in the medical service.

“I want to express condolences to our incoming Head of Civil Service, Lucy Nakyobe on account of the death of her husband, Dr. Mbonye. His untimely death is a big disappointment for the country and all who know his work in the medical service,” the President wrote in a message published on Sunday via his Twitter handle.

He said Prof. Mbonye who has been a medical doctor, author and Professor at the College of Health Sciences, Makerere University still had a lot to contribute to the country.

Mr. Museveni expressed condolences and saluted Ms. Nakyobe because “she did everything possible to support his husband during the time of sickness”, he said,adding;-

“She was always briefing me. May his soul rest in external peace”.

Born in Rwenkobwa, Ibanda District, Western Uganda, and a graduate of Makerere University, The University of Copenhagen and The University of Liverpool, UK, Prof Mbonye has authored numerous books in his medical career.

Prof. Mbonye, who joined thd public service in 1986 left the Ministry of Health in 2018 having risen to become the Director General of Health Services, after he opted for early retirement following serious disagreements among the top technocrats at the ministry.
