DPC, 2 other officers detained over extortion

AGAGO – Police in Agago district have detained three of their officers; including Acting DPC ASP Sebirumbi Yunus, DCIO D/ASP Nyamisogola Fredrick and Deputy SOCO DCPL Nasimolo Solomon.

This, according to Ongom David, the Aswa-River police spokesperson followed complaints from the members of the public on allegged unlawful arrests and detention and extortion.

“Following the unlawful assembly/riots incidences vide Agago CRB 298/2021 that took place on 26th/07/2021 at Patongo Town council in Agago district, the regional PSU Police of Aswa-River have taken action against three police officers of Agago CPS.”

According to Ongom, on June 26, 2021 at around 9AM, a group of people gathered around Agago CPS, Patongo Town Council demanding for the release of the suspect one Okema Patrick still detained at Gulu CPS who had been arrested with suspected stolen MC REG No. UFA 707S.

When their request was not addressed on time, they became violent, burning tyres in the middle of the road near the police station while demanding for the transfer of the arrested officers.

In the same scuffle, a one Kidega Lawrence aged 18yrs was shot at and injured.

“The officers have so far recorded statements at the regional police headquarters.”

“We are urging the members of the public especially of Agago to remain calm and allow police to carry out investigations into the matter,” Ongom said.
