KAMPALA — A stone quarry in Bukasa, Makindye East has caved in — killing four people on spot, Kampala Metropolitan Area Deputy Spokesman Luke Oweyisigyire has confirmed.

Mr. Oweyisigyire said the incident happened on Tuesday afternoon when a group of people were busy breaking stones in the quarry.

The identities of the victims were not readily available by the time of filing this story.

Police says the deceased’s bodies have been retrieved and conveyed to Kampala Capital City Authority mortuary at Mulago for post-mortem.

Oweyisigyire said the stone quarry has been closed to members of the public.

Meanwhile, three other people have been buried alive at a stone quarry belonging to the Sinohydro Power project in Karuma Town Council Kiryandongo district.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning after five youths from Diima parish in Mutunda Sub County went to the stone quarry in Karuma cell for work to earn a living.

Only one of the deceased has been identified as James Oyirwoth, a resident of Okwece in Karuma Town council.

The identities of the remaining victims were not readily available by the time of filing this story.

Efforts to get a comment from Kiryandongo DPC and Sino hydro officials were futile as their spokesperson could neither pick nor return calls from Uganda.
