KAMPALA – A joint security team on Tuesday stormed an introduction ceremony in Nansana – arresting at least 44 suspects – mostly men who were dressed like women.
Most of the suspects were wearing make-ups with hair wigs.
In a statement, Charles Twine – the Criminal Investigations Directorate CID Spokesperson noted that the suspects were picked from a ‘wedding party for a gay couple’ in Nansana Municipality in Wakiso district.
Luke Oweyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, said the suspects include 38 males and six females as a sizeable number fled to avoid arrest.
He noted that the suspects who are locked up at Nansana Police station have been charged with doing a negligible act likely to spread an infectious disease because they did not follow SOPs.”
“We have preferred to charge them using the public health act, since they were not following the Ministry of Health guidelines,” he said.
