KAMPALA – The Deputy Chief Justice, Richard Buteera, has described former Judiciary Permanent Secretary Kagole Expedito Kivumbi as a principled, dedicated and hardworking officer who loved the Judiciary and his country at large.

The DCJ made these remarks while delivering a condolence message on behalf of the Judiciary to a handful of mourners who gathered for a Requiem Mass at the deceased’s residence at Katale-Busawula in Seguku, Wakiso.

He was flanked by Judiciary’s Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Mr Pius Bigirimana.

Justice Buteera went on to say that he first met the late Kagole at Parliament, where the deceased was working as Director of Communications before his promotion to the rank of Permanent Secretary.

“Mr Kagole has worked for a very long time in Public Service. He had risen through the ranks to the level of Permanent Secretary,” he noted.

The DCJ asked God to comfort the bereaved.

“While the death of a family member inflicts both physical and emotional pain, we are comforted by the fond memories of the life he has lived. We pray that the Almighty God bridges the gap that has been created by his departure with the Holy Spirit and give the family the courage to withstand the pain.”

He informed the family of the late Kagole that on top of meeting burial expenses, the Judiciary would equally meet the late’s medical bills.

On his part, Mr Bigirimana said his colleague’s sudden death saddened him.

“Imagine, I spoke to him last month, and I told him that we should meet up at the end of June, but he told me, how sure are you that we shall meet, with this COVID all over the place?”

“He was our great friend, and we shall miss him,” said Mr Bigirimana, adding that the Judiciary had contributed Shs15.6 million towards the deceased’s funeral expenses. An association of Permanent Secretaries also separately pooled Shs3 million towards the burial expenses.

Kagole, 59, succumbed to Covid-19 on Sunday evening. He is survived by his wife, Mumbejja Elizabeth Nassolo Kivumbi, and five children: Nambatya Irene (a Magistrate Grade One), Nyago Deogratious (an Office Supervisor at the Judiciary), Nabayego Proscovia, Kivumbi Richard and Gwokyalya Jovia Jennifer Gertrude.

He will be laid to rest on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Katuuso, Namuganga, Seeta Sub-County, after Kasawo Town Council in Mukono district — in a scientific burial service scheduled to commence at midday.
