KAMPALA — The opposition Forum for Democratic Change party has glorified the appointment of its acting party president, Hon. Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo upon her appointment to the cabinet of President Yoweri Museveni.
The Rubaga veteran Catholic leader was Tuesday appointed as state Minister for Information and National guidance, a position formely occupied by Peter Ogwang.
Nabbosa’s appointment comes after she lost grip of the Rubaga division Mayor slot which she held close for 2 decades before being ousted by the National Unity Platform party candidate, Mberaze.
FDC has already taken to Twitter to brag about the appointment of its Vice President into a government they have challenged for the past 20 years.
FDC Deputy general secretary Harold Kaija said the appointment is a gesture that Gen. Museveni is willing to hand over power to the FDC. “We are grateful about this appointment,” Kaija said moments after the appointment. “As FDC, we welcome the transition and we are very much willing to work with Museveni on that course to transition,” he adds.
However, veteran politicians like Hon. Betty Nambooze Bakireke have urged the opposition icon to reject the appointment. “I expect Hon. Nabbosa to respect her age and legacy and turn down the appointment,” Nambooze said last night on the NBS Barometer extra show. It should be noted that Gen. Museveni has for the past regimes appointed opposition brands in the FDC like Hon. Beatrice Anywar, Betty Kamya among others.
