IGP Ochala thanks President Museveni for contract renewal

KAMPALA – The Insipector General of Police (IGP) has thanked President Yoweri Museveni for extending his contract for another 3 years.

Ochala also thanked Parliament, the Police Authority, Heads of Sister Security Agencies, the DIGP, all Directors, HoDs and Specialized units, and all frontline officers, who offered their support and showed confidence in his leadership over the past 3 years.

He further acknowledged that the Police was a great organization that carried out incredibly important work, in close coordination with Sister Security Agencies, to help Ugandans and visitors to the country remain safe.

The IGP pledged over the next 3 years, together with the DIGP, to make the necessary changes to ensure the UPF transformed by adopting; new technologies and shifting away from the traditional methods of policing, ideological orientation with emphasis on mindset and attitude change, on eliminating corruption in the entire Police Force, improving Welfare and Human Rights enforcement, increased police presence, in the greater Karamoja region as the significant reforms to be embarked on.

According to Police Spokesperson CP Fred Enanga, the IGP anticipated new and complex operational challenges, but is confident the UPF will embrace the changes necessary, to bring out the best from the dynamic and committed workforce.

The DIGP Paul Lokech on behalf of the police leadership was very glad that the IGPs reappointment was made. During the short period he had known the IGP, he acknowledged his level of commitment and dedication that had made a positive impact on policing in our country, during very challenging periods of both the pandemic and the general elections in Uganda.

He added that Police Management was privileged to have been and part of the team, working alongside a very dedicated and professional IGP committed to protecting the communities we serve.

The DIGP referred to the consistent fall in both serious and violent crimes in the last 3 years, that he has been IGP, and anticipates a further reduction in crime for the year 2020.
