KAMPALA – While education technocrats proposed that all learners return to school, scientists under the national COVID-19 task force have said it is risky at the moment and appealed to President Yoweri Museveni that they wait until learners are vaccinated.
This was on Monday, February 1 during a cabinet meeting which looked at various options both the scientists and ministry of education officials submitted after they failed to agree on permitting all learners back to school this term.
Education minister, Janet Museveni earlier said that scientists from the Ministry of Health and the Covid-19 Taskforce must first study the trend of Covid-19 spread before they decide the next course of action.
However, according to the health ministry, Uganda is likely to receive the first of the vaccine about 9 million doses between May and June.
Priority is to be given to frontline workers, the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.
President Museveni is on Wednesday, February 3 expected to officially announce when or whether schools will fully or partially reopen for all learners.
