KAMPALA – The Chairperson for Education Service Commission (ESC) Prof. Dr. Samuel A. Lugoba has revealed that a total of 2542 vacancies will be advertised to recruit teachers in secondary schools.

He made the revelation on February 17, at the Uganda Media Centre while addressing the Press on the Planned Recruitment of Secondary School Teachers in the Country.

According to Prof Lugoba, the commission received a submission from the Ministry to recruit teachers in categories of Operational Seed Secondary Schools, non Operational Seed Secondary Schools and expanded Government Schools.

“The Ministry will deploy staff under normal deployment following the completion of the recruitment exercise under Advert No. 4/20202 which stalled due to the COVID-19 Lock down,” he said.

He added that Seed schools have been operational since 2018 and have sitting teachers who will be given priority.

“Interviews will commence on 22nd Feb to March 13,”he noted.

Since the introduction of Seed Schools in 2010,Prof Lugoba said government has to date recruited 9,612 staff for a total of 356 seed schools.

The ESC Secretary, Asuman Lukwago said some of the teachers who are going to be interviewed are already there.

“They already made decisions and recently the ESC now advertises the jobs based on schools. And one of the qualifications to pass the interview is to accept that you are going to do the interview from there. For instance if your school is in Kabong, and you are from Mutukula, if you can’t travel there then you can’t do the interview,” said Lukwago.

He added that they signed agreements with recruited teachers that the will be there for at least three years.
