Kusasira has humble origins. He was born in 1978 to Mr Eric Kabeera and late Jovanisi Kabeera in Kiruhura District.

“When I was still a small boy, primary-school-going, my father was head of the laity and he was always reading his Bible. My mother, I think, was illiterate in the extreme sense of the word – I never saw her turn any page of any book. But she knew God and she sang all those hymns in the religious book, without reading them…I was very lucky to go to school, I should tell you,” he said in an interview in 2018.

He went to Kashwa PS, Bijwe PS, Mburo SSS and Makerere University. He holds an MA in literature from Makerere.

Around 2008, he worked with Fountain Publishers and then Cross Cultural Foundation of Uganda, before joining Mulago.
