KAMPALA – Mengo Magistrate’s court has on Wednesday issued an injunction directing a recount in disputed Kampala central MP seat which was reclaimed by the incumbent Muhammad Nsereko in an election widely marred with irregularities.
This follows a petition to the effect by Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi – Bobi Wine’s brother, Fred Nyanzi.
Nyanzi petitioned court seeking a recount on grounds that the voting process and vote counting was marred with a lot of malpractices by both the electoral commission and Nsereko’s agents.
NRM-leaning Nsereko was declared winner with a tight total number of votes of 16,998 while Nyanzi scored 15,975 votes.
Court has set Thursday, January 28 for recount.
Court records indicate that Nsereko polled 16, 998 while Nyanzi emerged second with 15,975 votes.
