KAMPALA – Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has said police and military have remained deployed at his residence in Magere, Kasangati, despite High Court ordering them to vacate.
On Monday morning, High Court Judge Michael Elubu ruled that Bobi Wine’s continued confinement at his residence is illegal and ordered the security forces to leave so that he can enjoy his freedom.
But Bobi Wine posted on social media on Monday evening that deployment around his home has been stepped up.
“The situation at my place is still the same and police have not left. They are not allowing anyone in or out even though the court has ordered them leave. We know they are still waiting for the order from ‘above’ as they have always waited for Museveni to tell them,” he said.
This comes even as Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said they would abide by the court orders and vacate the NUP candidate’s home.
Kyagulanyi aka Bobi wine and his wife Barbie have been under house arrest since they voted on January 14, 2021.
Court ruled that Bobi Wine’s rights had been infringed on and that he is being held at home which isn’t a gazetted detention centre. Court said if he was under arrest, he would be dispatched to a police station and produced before a magistrate.
“The continued indefinite restriction and confinement of Bobi Wine is unlawful and his right to liberty has been infringed and orders that he be released.”
