Man captured on camera assaulting police officer arrested

KAMPALA – Police in Kampala have arrested the suspected criminal who was captured on camera assaulting a police officer on duty during riots last Wednesday, November 18, 2020.

Police first picked his associate from his hideout with the help of CCTV cameras.

The suspect is called Ssebwa Emmanuel Ssebuliba. His associate is identified as Kasozi Benson.

They are both detained at CPS Kampala on attempted murder charges.

“We condemn the act of attacking our security personnel who are carrying out their lawful duties,” Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Patrick Onyango said.

Police spokesman Fred Enanga said: “A total of 836 suspects were arrested, of whom 362 suspects were charged to court, including Hon Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu, 330 were remanded, 32 released on court bail, while 474 pending court today. 01 released on police bond (Hon. Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat)”

“It is very unfortunate that the riots have so far claimed 45 lives, which included 39 male adults and 06 women, who fall in the age bracket of 25-40. A total of 42 bodies have been claimed, while 03 remain unclaimed. Our hearts go out to all victims of the violent protests,” he added.
