Bobi Wine violated EC’s designated exit route, says Police

KAMPALA – Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango has said Presidential hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine failed to follow the designated exit route as earlier planned.

In a statement dated November 4, Onyango noted that this prompted security to take over responsibility of escorting him up to his home in Magere, Kasangati.

“When, Hon. Kyagulanyi reached home at around 1300 hours, he refused to enter his gate and instead insisted to go back to the party headquarters In Kamwokya in a procession which was against the Independent Electoral Commission guidelines,” he said.

He added that the supporters started rioting and pelting security personnel with stones.

“One police officer No. 70106 PPC Robert Hasahya was hit on the head with a stone by a National Unity Platform (NUP) supporter,” he noted.

According to Onyango, a case of assault was reported at Kasangati Police vide SD ref 40/03/11/2020.

He further revealed that John Baptist Nsamba, the Gobolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) for Kasangati, was beaten up by the NUP demonstrators, his Samsung smart phone and money Shs120,000 was robbed by the the demonstrators.

“A case of assault and simple robbery was registered at Kasangati
Police Station vide SD ref 46//03/11/2020.”

Onyango said the police officer and the GISO were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Additionally, a police vehicle registration Number UP 2393 windscreen was smashed where as a Military Police vehicle was damaged.

“The Independent Electoral Commission escort vehicle registration number UG0948B that was given to Hon. Kyagulanyi was also damaged,” said Onyango.

He added, “Security team used teargas to disperse the already charged crowd.Other people were also injured by the flying stones, including unidentified lady, who was rushed by supporters of Hon. Kyagulanyi to unknown medical centre.”

The perpetrators of violence were arrested and detained at Kasangati Police on charges of inciting
Violence, assault and malicious damage as 11 suspects were arrested in Magere Kasangati alone.

Onyango further noted that it was a pre arranged, planned activities as intelligence had it that NUP supporters wanted to have a procession through the city centre but they were frustrated by security.
